Liz Harrison lives in the mountains of southwestern Montana with her fiancee, four dogs, four cats and one horse. She has a BA in English Literature, a Masters degree in Spiritual Guidance, and will soon be ordained as an Interfaith Minister. She is also a certified SoulCollage™ facilitator.
A life-long lover of the Divine, Liz has explored many forms of spirituality and religion over the years — from her childhood as a baptized Catholic, to a practicing United Methodist, to an exploration of perhaps converting to Judaism, to spending Sundays in California with a charismatic gay Episcopalian minister.
Later, when she moved to the West Coast, she studied Centering Prayer with Fr. Thomas Keating, Hindu chanting with Thomas Ashley Farrand, practiced Transcendental Meditation for 10 years daily, and took silent retreats in a Benedictine monastery in the Santa Ynez mountains in Santa Barbara. She’s floated in sensory deprivation tanks, done chakra work with Anodea Judith, been to The Esalen Institute in Big Sur, Brugh Joy’s year-end retreats in Pacific Grove, and made (and sold!) customized mala beads for meditation.
Prior to going back to school to get her Masters, Liz was Vice-President of Publicity and Marketing for a major New York City publisher. At their request, she opened their first-ever West Coast office in Los Angeles, which she ran for 10 years. Later, she became the Associate Publisher of Sounds True, the acclaimed spiritual audio and book publishing company (www.soundstrue.com) where she worked closely with some of the most important spiritual teachers of our age.
Following her father’s death in 2000, after experiencing the incredible support of the hospice team that so beautifully helped her father and her family deal with his dying process, she became trained as a hospice patient care volunteer, Liz has helped close to 100 people and families navigate this profound passage. Liz was appointed to the Boulder (CO) Area Aging Association as a hospice practitioner. Her Masters thesis was about the spiritual aspects of death and dying, and she completed a through literature review of the available articles and books that address spirituality at end of life. Liz is working on a book about this topic. She is very interested in the continuing exploration of that subject, and devotes a large part of her practice as a Spiritual Director to hospice patients and their families.
In 2016 Liz became a certified SoulCollage™ facilitator. Based on the groundbreaking work of it’s creator, Seena Frost, SoulCollage™ is a profound tool to use in spiritual direction, as it bypasses the intellect and goes straight to the heart.
